How to Renew SAS(BU campus)

The license files for renewing either SAS version 9.0 or version 9.1(.3) are located (for on campus viewing only) at

http://statmart.cc.binghamton.edu/BU_Documentation/SAS_2006_2007/ (needs to be updated --Rhansen 14:30, 15 August 2007 (EDT) )

The text file that begins with sas90___ is for version 9.0.

The second file beginning with sas91___ is for version 9.1.

Your SAS log file (when SAS starts up) will indicate which version you have installed.

(Ex. the log file for SAS version 9.1 begins

NOTE: SAS (r) 9.1 (TS1M3))

Renewing your SAS license for another year should be a simple 4 step process:

  • Download the license file (now called a SID (SAS Installation Data)

rather than a setinit these days. You should do this by right-clicking on the file's link, then saving the text file to your desktop.

  • Begin the Renew SAS Software script (which has three steps) by clicking

Start, SAS, SAS 9.1 Utilities, then Renew SAS Software. The first step of the script is to Browse to the SID file you downloaded, click Open, Next,

  • click OK, to verify that your SID file is for Windows till 2007

('Microsoft Windows Professional' should also work for Windows 2000) Next,

  • then the Renew button (Step 3).

When the computer indicates that you have successfully renewed SAS, you are finished unless you're still using SAS version 9.0.

There are significant enhancements to SAS available only in the latest version of SAS (and at least one important bug fix from the older version affecting how well SAS works with network drives).

If you'd like me (--Rhansen 16:21, 2 November 2006 (EST))or my assistant (Pankti Modi) to visit your office to uninstall SAS 9.0 and upgrade your installation to 9.1.3 please request a SAS Upgrade or Renewal using the Licensed Software Database

request form. We are also available to assist with the renewal process described as needed.
