Re: Links that should make the cut : those in our database (and likely used by a significant number of folks/ on campus). It's debatable whether software like EViews, Stata, R (used by singular Departments, Economics, Political Science, Mathematics respectively) should be on this list.

Re: Freeware/Shareware : the criterion falters a bit when we consider freeware. Some freeware products may simply be too numerous to be listed (ex. what about WinZip(shareware), SSH, Windows media player, Quicktime Flash plugin). Freeware/Shareware should have it's own list so our primary list doesn't become too large and difficult to maintain.

Re: what's listed It's nice to have listserv and other support forums listed here concisely, but what's missing is links to online documentation ... there may be just too much information that we're trying to put in one place. Solving both of these problem is to create links to Software End-user notes pages. Each 'Notes' page can include a brief description of the software, what it's used for (keyword categories of software), Installation Notes (Instructions, system requirements), Other related documents, online resources, Localized notes on accessibility on campus (where the software is installed), tips?, workshops? similar software?

The Other software list (or a page dedicated to 'All software notes' page) can be a place for our community to tell us about software we should be interested in for licensing. --Rhansen 15:09, 14 June 2006 (EDT)
